Nests, the space where birds roost. Where they grow, where they learn to warble, chirp, and sing, before they eventually fly away to form their own nests.
Nests, are made of all that surrounds us, and all we surround ourselves with. Our thoughts, feelings, desires, and dreams. Nests are the places we grew up in, but also those who first taught us how to love. They are where we feel freedom, peace, and safety. Sometimes, our nests can be people we choose to accompany us, with whom we feel whole, find our voice and build our own new nests, as the birds do. And each nest gives us a precious sense of belonging and the rich sensation of homecoming.
The pieces that constitute Nests are inspired by two principal elements: the musics of the eastern Mediterranean and the Cypriot dialect, in the way I understand and use these forms of expression in my everyday life. Again and again, I seek to know and to discover my artistic selfhood through these rich traditions, which shape the multifaceted Cypriot identity I inherited.
